Following a fundraising process led by Ader Finance, SchoolMouv raises 2.5 million euros from M Capital Partners, Swen Capital Partners, and Matmut Innovation
This second fundraising round will enable it to launch interactive game-based exercises and become the undisputed leader in France
SchoolMouv, the online video-based school course platform, announces its second fundraising round, totaling 2.5 million euros, from M Capital, Matmut Innovation, and Swen Capital Partners. It had previously raised 1.25 million in 2016 from other funds. Between these two funding rounds, the Toulouse-based startup (Haute-Garonne) has carved out a niche in the competitive online course market, growing from 140,000 to 1 million students from middle school to high school, the majority of whom are registered for free, and 35,000 teachers.
This new investment will enable it to launch interactive exercises incorporating game mechanics this year to provide active learning. The company will recruit IT developers and increase its staff from 30 to 40 employees by mid-2019. « We want to quickly become the number one in online course videos », says its CEO, Shannon Picardo, who founded the company in 2013 while studying at Toulouse Business School.
SchoolMouv launched its platform in 2015. The courses are designed by teachers but narrated by actors to make the delivery more engaging. Over the years, the company has added exercises, quizzes, course summaries and readings, corrected Baccalauréat exam papers in 2017, and an encyclopedia of over 10,000 documents to prepare presentations... « Students learn with the course summaries, revise with the video, and practice with quizzes », explains Shannon Picardo, who states that its registered users improve their average school grades by 2.6 points.
